1. Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter, because as I have mentioned quite a bit on this here Tumblr, they are awesome even though they may not be to everyone’s taste.
2. Janelle Monae. OBVIOUS.
3. Me’shell Ndegeocello. Incredible lyricist, incredible singer, incredible musician.
4. Antony & the Johnsons. Caveat: they are too weird to ever get airplay.
5. Bjork, who will probably be on this list FOR ETERNITY. I think videos like the one for “Where is the Line” demonstrate exactly why. The song does, too, but the video really pushes the envelope right off the table.
